Imagine a dictionary containing many thousands of words, with your head turned away from the, you riffle down the pages of the book and your spectator calls STOP at ANY point. The book is now handed to the spectator to hold and now without ever touching the book again and with no fishing you divine their thought of word with 100% accuracy!

In 1992 Mark devised the original 'Chaos & Order' triumph routine, based on a self-shuffling deck idea that was shown to him by a Chinese magician when he was living out in Hong Kong. A little while later Michael Weber suggested the actual 'Chaos and Order' patter theme, which was incorporated immediately. For a decade Mark performed the routine to a great effect, in all kinds of working environments. Recently, several possible improvements occurred, including a way to increase the number of selections and make the selection process a lot cleaner. One thing led to another… This new version is a substantial improvement on the original and the assimilation of the "Chaos Machine" into the card case is, we think, the finishing touch.
So here is the effect… Two spectators each select a card which they hold onto. The deck is cut in half and placed face-to-face. The deck is temporarily placed in the "Chaos Machine" (otherwise known as the card case). The 'CHAOS' button is pressed... and the deck is immediately removed and spread to show that all 52 cards are now interlaced face-up and face-down, in a truly chaotic state. Both sides of the deck are shown to be in this condition. The spectators' cards are replaced into the chaotic deck, one face up and one facedown. The deck is once again placed into the "Chaos Machine" and this time the 'ORDER' button is pressed. The deck is cleanly tipped out of the case and spread to show that every single card is face-up except for two - the selections.

Effect
Three cards are freely selected (no force), signed and returned to the deck. The Magician now shows a Bicycle Joker and states that it has been specially trained to do the Magic.
The Joker is placed in the Magician’s back pocket and with a Magical gesture, reappears face-up in the face down deck, right next to the first selection.
The Joker is then placed back in the Magician's pocket for a second time and the deck is spread to show that there are no face-up cards. Then once again, the Joker reappears face up in the facedown deck, right next to selection number two.
The Joker is removed for a final time, but this time, fails to reappear in the deck... the Magician reaches into his pocket and brings out the Joker, only to find that the reason he did not return is because he has fallen off his bike! The Magician makes a final Magical gesture and with an empty hand, reaches into his pocket and removes the final signed selection!

Here’s the effect. Ask anybody to just name any one of the 52 cards. Their choice is totally free they can name any card. Imagine, the victim cutting the deck EXACTLY at the card they just named! It’s AWESOME.
The effect is a classic. It was perhaps the best effect in Juan Tamariz’ book Mnemonica. Many performers attempted to learn this method but found it takes months of work to master. Even when mastered, during many performances you were forced to use “outs” to bring the effect to a successful conclusion. Those who took the time to master the effect however found that the reaction from their audiences made the effort worth it.

This is David Blaine's single favorite effect. The actual deal-closer David used for most of his professional career. It helped him close the deal on his first Network T.V. special: Street Magic.
You show someone a batch of twenty cards... all different.
You give her ten of the cards to hold.
You now have her just think of one of the remaining ten cards. She never says a word. No one except her knows what card she's thinking of.
These ten cards are counted again. Strangely... there are now only nine. The one card she'd been thinking of has vanished! She's still only thinking of her card; it's never been named out loud!
She counts the other ten cards she's been holding; ten cards you haven't touched since the beginning. But now she has eleven cards! The strange traveler has arrived... her thought-of card is now staring her in the face!
Strange Travelers is a streamlined version of a classic effect that was Nate Lepzig's favorite over 75 years ago. Other variations have come and gone. David re-discovered this hidden gem, and the rest is history.

A 'magic card', with 2, quarter sized holes, is produced and placed on top of selected card. The performer makes a cutting motion with their fingers over the card. Then as the 'magic card' is slid away from the deck, you can see through the holes, that the selected card has indeed been cut in half! A card at any number effect for the real world!
A single red-backed prediction card is placed face-down in full view of the audience. The spectator names any number between 1 and 52 (e.g.17). The performer hands him a blue backed deck and asks him to have a look through it to confirm that it is simply a regular deck of cards - the spectator confirms that it is. He is then instructed to deal down to the seventeenth card and place it next to the prediction. Without any moves or switches, the performer turns over both the selection and the prediction - they match!

Listen to this: Whilst the performer's back is turned, two participants each look at a card from the deck. The selections are free choices and different every time. The deck is then shuffled and dropped into the performer's empty pocket. As each person merely thinks of their card the performer produces it from his pocket! All without a single move!!
But there's more! Check this out: The deck is fairly shown front and back at the start of the effect. The selections really are genuinely free and from any part of the deck. The participants handle the deck throughout. The effect may be instantly repeated and the selections are different every time. The deck is self-contained, nothing extra is hidden in the performer's pocket or added or removed at any time. The deck is genuinely shuffled before being placed in your pocket. If you like, it may be placed in one of the participant's pockets and yet you can still locate the selections!
