In the early 1900’s, the Rhinelander Company earned widespread notoriety touring with their most sensational attraction, a seer said to possess the uncanny ability to speak with the dead. Yet it was not the spectacle alone that secured their legacy, but what followed soon after. Capitalising on the public’s growing fascination with the beyond, Rhinelander introduced a home séance kit: a curious apparatus resembling a telegrapher’s key, accompanied by a detailed instruction manual.

No longer confined to the drawing rooms of the affluent or reliant upon the services of professional mediums, the mysteries of the afterlife were, at last, made accessible to the common household. But what truly set the device apart, what chilled even the most sceptical observers, was the clarity with which the spirits began to speak. With deliberate taps and unmistakable rhythm, they answered. The dead, it seemed, had been given a voice. And they weren’t afraid to use it.

Originally released as part of the Spookshow line, TAP has now been refined and redesigned to fit straight into your performances of the strange and unusual.

The spirit communication device remains entirely under your control at all times, operated discreetly via remote control or toe switch. It comes complete with an aged manual detailing the deceptively simple code used to decipher the tapped-out letters. I should also point out the manual and box have been treated so that they smell like they’ve been dug out of an old attic.

TAP can be used minimally, once for yes, twice for no, or it can be used to spell out full sentences from beyond the veil.

Fully self-contained and compact, the device can even be handled freely by your audience, should you wish. Though a word of advice: if you’re inviting a participant to hold the device, it’s best to have them seated with their hand resting just above the table. They will jump.
